About
I set up the Connected Content blog as an extension of my writing business, as well as of my teaching at colleges around Connecticut. The blog’s content is geared for business and technical writers — as well as folks who don’t regard themselves as business or technical writers but who have to do a lot of either as part of their jobs. Here you’ll find tips, tricks, shortcuts, strategies, survival tactics, links to other resources you may not have heard of, software recommendations, and book reviews. What you’ll find here has been tried, tested, refined, and tested again.
Whether you’re a lone writer or part of a team, you’ll find something here for you. I’ve worked in both types of environments, and know the joys and travails of both. I’ve worked in environments with healthy budgets and those with next-to-nothing, and know the challenges and opportunities found in both.
I’ve worked steadily as a professional writer for nearly 20 years, starting out in newspaper journalism, moving into magazine publishing, and then ultimately into a career that had me juggling responsibilities in technical writing, newsletter publishing, marketing writing, and corporate communications. All while still managing to carry a sizable freelancing career on the side. I’ve lived the highs of the professional writer’s life, survived the lows, and loved every minute along the way. Along the way, I’ve found great mentors and formed long-lasting friendships with others in my field — and those relationships have had far-reaching effects on my career. It’s my hope that you’ll be able to find a few of those yourself through Connected Content.
